Our Services

Every project starts somewhere different. Tell us where you are and we will show you how we can help.

We offer a full architectural service from initial ideas and feasibility through to planning, construction and completion. Our services are shaped around your project, not a fixed process. Whether you are a community organisation taking on a heritage building for the first time, a faith group planning a major development, a school, a sports club or a homeowner, we bring the same depth of knowledge and care to every commission.

Early Stage & Planning

Many of the projects we are most proud of began with a conversation, a rough idea and a lot of unanswered questions. If that is where you are, you are in exactly the right place.

  • Many clients come to us without a formal brief. We work with you to produce a well-defined written brief that captures your goals, priorities, budget and aspirations in clear, usable terms. A strong brief is the foundation for good design and successful funding applications.

  • A feasibility study gives you the evidence and clarity to move forward with confidence — whether that is a set of concept drawings or a detailed written report with full costings.

We have extensive experience supporting community organisations and heritage trusts through successful applications to the National Lottery Heritage Fund, the Architectural Heritage Fund and other grant bodies, and we produce well-evidenced documents that make a compelling case for funding.

  • Securing grant funding is often the difference between a project happening and staying as an idea.

We research suitable funding routes, build your case and produce well-structured written applications to funders including the National Lottery Heritage Fund, the Architectural Heritage Fund and Historic England. A key part of this work is structuring your project to align with grant outcomes.

  • We design and facilitate consultation and co-design workshops tailored to your project and your community, with extensive experience working with a wide range of participants — from elected members and trustees to young people and school children.

You receive a clear written record of community priorities, needs and aspirations that feeds directly into your design brief and strengthens your case with funders and stakeholders.

Heritage & Conservation

Whether you are at the very beginning of a heritage project or ready to move into design, this is your starting point. All of our early stage services — scoping, feasibility, grant applications and community engagement — are available alongside our specialist conservation services.

As RIBA Specialist Conservation Architects, we understand the technical, regulatory and funding landscape for listed buildings, historic assets and faith buildings of all traditions. We know how to navigate listed building consent, Historic England, conservation area requirements and heritage funding bodies

  • A quinquennial inspection is a detailed five-yearly condition survey of a building, most commonly associated with churches and places of worship but equally valuable for any listed or historic building.

We carry out inspections for all grades of listed and historic buildings and for faith buildings across all traditions, applying the principles of the Care of Churches and Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction Measure 1991 regardless of denomination or faith tradition.

Our reports are written to be genuinely useful: clearly organised, easy to read and practically focused so that priorities are immediately visible and recommendations are easy to act on. The aim is a working document that helps building custodians manage and maintain their property with confidence, not a report that sits in a filing cabinet.

  • AStatement of Significance summarises the building’s character and specific elements, highlighting how any proposed changes may affect its overall tangible and intangible value. This helps us to evaluate the impact of the proposed work and offer ways to mitigatate any potential damage to the heritage.

  • When changes are proposed to a listed building or a building within a conservation area, a Heritage Impact Assessment sets out how those changes affect the building's significance and why they are justified.

We prepare clear, well-argued assessments grounded in a thorough understanding of the building and its context. Our approach provides your application the strongest possible foundation with planning authorities and Historic England.

Design & Construction

You have done the groundwork. Now you need an architect who will take your project through design, planning and construction with the same care and commitment you have invested to get here. We work with community organisations, faith groups, heritage trusts, schools, sports clubs and homeowners through every stage of the design and construction process.

  • We carry out pre-application enquiries and planning applications across a wide range of project types and local authorities.

We know how to present a scheme clearly, address planning authority concerns, and give your application the strongest possible foundation for approval. As RIBA Specialist Conservation Architects, our expertise includes sensitive heritage and conservation settings.

  • Our construction drawings are produced to a high level of detail, meeting Building Regulations requirements and giving contractors the information they need to price accurately and build precisely.

A well-detailed set of drawings reduces the risk of costly variations on site and protects your budget through the construction stage.

We manage the tendering process on your behalf or provide drawings for you or another party to tender independently.

  • Under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 and the Building Safety Act 2022, most construction projects require a Principal Designer to coordinate health and safety during the design stage.

We are well placed to fulfil this role, bringing a thorough understanding of the regulatory requirements alongside the design process.

  • We administer JCT and RIBA contracts on your behalf. Having your architect administer the contract provides an independent layer of oversight that protects your interests and keeps the project on track through to completion.
